Why We’re Hosting a Free Extension Class (And Why It Matters to Me)

When I first started in extensions, education wasn’t what it is today. It was expensive, exclusive, and often out of reach for so many stylists.

I remember sitting in my room watching YouTube tutorials, practicing on friends, and learning through trial and error. It wasn’t glamorous, but it made me scrappy. It made me better.

Then, when I was pregnant and couldn’t work behind the chair, I was lucky enough to catch my first real glimpse into the extension world. I took an education role at a local distributor, where I was trained in multiple methods and tasked with teaching them to other salons. That role gave me access, training, and a deeper understanding of what it meant to really master extensions — but it still wasn’t mine.

Eventually, I had a client who believed in me so much that she paid for my first formal extension course. It was only $500 — but at the time, I couldn’t even afford that on my own. That one investment changed the trajectory of my career.

That’s why Extension Arts is opening the doors to something I wish I had: a completely free extension install class on October 13th.

It’s more than just education. It’s about removing the gatekeeping around this industry. Because I know there are brilliant, talented artists out there who just need someone to believe in them, to give them the first step forward.

And to be transparent — yes, we’re also always looking for rising talent. Extension Arts is growing, and we want the best artists on our team.
