Step-by-Step: The Perfect High Pony with Extensions (Ariana Grande Style)
Wearing extensions doesn’t mean you can’t rock a snatched ponytail. The trick? Work row by row so your wefts stay hidden and your pony looks seamless. In this example, I’m using two rows — adjust if you have more.
What you’ll need
Boar bristle extension brush
Balmain mousse (my go-to for grip + soft hold)
Soft elastic (no metal)
1. Prep your hair
Brush through to remove tangles.
Work a small amount of Balmain mousse around the perimeter for hold
Keep product light near the wefts to avoid buildup.
2. Start with the top row
Section your hair so you’re only working with the top row of extensions and your natural hair above it.
Smooth this section upward with your brush, aiming for where you want your ponytail to sit (think crown or higher for that Ariana vibe).
Secure with a soft elastic or hold with a light grip
3. Add the bottom row
Gather the bottom row and smooth it up into the pony you just made.
Join it to the top ponytail with a second elastic, (or single elastic depending on how advanced you are) securing everything together.
This layering method hides the wefts and distributes the weight evenly.
4. Polish + finish
Take a small section of hair from the ponytail, wrap it around the elastic, and pin underneath to disguise it. (Optional)
Smooth flyaways with a dab of mousse on your fingertips.
Optional: tease the ponytail slightly for volume or keep it sleek for full Ariana energy.
Pro Tips
If you feel tension at the scalp, lower the pony slightly — extensions need comfort too.
Always work row by row — it’s the secret to seamless upstyles with extensions.
Balmain mousse keeps the look soft, flexible, and photo-ready.
